Outline:
- The entire
Pack participated in our "Super Bowl
Sunday Pinewood Derby". The race was
organized as a "Double
Elimination". The Scorpions were
well represented, with Chris B. taking
2nd place (second year in a row).
- Special
Kudos goes to Daniel P. - his family was
moving during January and he and his
father (AWDL Tony) couldn't find time to
build his car - but Daniel attended the
Pinewood Derby anyway. GREAT TEAM
SPIRIT!).
- Sour Grapes
- Over the years I have been involved in
over a half dozen Pinewood Derbies, and
have observed time and again, the
dominence of the Webelos and Bears over
the younger Tigers and Wolves. I proposed
two alternatives, both of which were
turned down - the Stern Method (each
scout races four times) and two divisions
(Tigers/Wolves and Bears/Webelos).
Unfortunately, my dire forecast came true
- all of the Tigers and most of the
Wolves were eliminated during the first
two rounds, and sat bored and teary-eyed
as the race went on for five or six
rounds!).
