Outline:
- Camp
Currier served as the site for our annual
"Webelos Woods Encampment".
- The weather
was great - clear skies, lows in the 40's
and highs in the 70's - not at all like
last year when we had 4" of rain the
first night.
- WDL Richard
lead the caravan of Scorpions that left
EUMC @ 4PM on Friday.
- The
management of our camp was shared by the
three Akelas:
- AWDL
Tony managed the "Field
Cooking";
- AWDL
Mark managed the
"Campfire";
- WDL
Richard managed the
"Campsite & Firstaid
Station" setup, while also
managing to stay out of trouble
for the rest of the weekend!
- The
"Campsite" setup was an
excellent experience.
- The
first step involved surveying the
campsite for the best location of
the tents, campfire, and cooking
station.
- We
then staked a line from one end
of the campsite to the other, and
set our tents against it.
- Each
of the Scorpions, along with
their dads, set their own tents -
with most of the effort by the
scouts with their dads as
assistants.
- Once
all of the personal equipment was
stowed, it was time to unload the
food and cooking equipment. All
of the Scorpions helped with the
setup, with the dads providing
guidance and assistance.
- The
final step was the setup of the
water buckets, firstaid station
and camp inspection.
- Feeding
nine hungrey Scorpions and their dads was
WDL Richard's biggest concern - but AWDL
Tony, with help from all of the other
dads, pulled it off without a hitch!
- Since WDL
Richard and his son Chris are
VEGETARIANS, they took this opportunity
to demonstrated "Foil Pouch"
cooking to the rest of the Den. They
prepared "White Rice and Mixed
Vegetables Gently Simmered in Oriental
Spices".
- After
dinner it was time for "Marshmallows
and Spooky Tales" around the
campfire.
The Next Day:
- After
Revele, breakfast, and final camp
inspection, it was off to the twelve
events scheduled by the Eastern District
for the Scouts.
- Of course,
Archery and B-B Guns were the main
attractions (which we left for the
afternoon), but we also participated in
cooking, firstaid, knots, knife safety,
games, crafts, compass orientation, fire
building, and the forest scavenger hunt.
- The twelfth
activity was a skit, and true to form,
WDL Richard forgot his skit book at home.
However,
the Scorpions came to the rescue - with
NO Akela guidence, they selected, and
practiced, the "Bubble Gum"
skit while WDL Richard stood to the side
and swelled with pride!
- The
Scopions Patrol received the "Best
Campsite Ribbon" at the
"Closing Bonfire Ceremony", and
performed their skit along with the other
Dens in the district.
- And then it
was time to pack up and head home.
- We all had
a great time, and want to thank the
scouts, their dads, and, of course, the
scout leaders, for making this a SUPER
ENCAMPMENT!
